FIMI represents major record labels and distributors of the recording sector for a total of over 2,500 of the most famous brands in the world.

Born in 1992, FIMI (Federation of the Italian Music Industry) is founding member of Confindustria Cultura Italia – the official federation of the cultural industry in Italy – and IFPI (the voice of the recording industry worldwide): it represents the interests of some 2,500 members across the globe.

FIMI protects and promotes activities related to the recording industry, providing its members with the following services:

FIMI operates a daily monitoring service of national and international legislative procedures of interest to the category it represents. It produces reports and legislative proposals, interfaces with representatives of the major national and local institutions. Through the representation of IFPI, FIMI operates in an international network that oversees the major community institutions and international such as WIPO and WTO. FIMI regularly prepares positions and reports of interest in the sector which are conveyed to the Italian representatives in the EU institutions.

FIMI collects and publishs sector data and research, both nationally and internationally, to allow companies to know the trend and development of the market. Associated companies can access to economic data and studies carried out by the most important research companies.

FIMI promotes and participates in conferences and seminars about topics of particular interest to associated companies, guiding and assisting its members in the current structural review of the sector. Members periodically receive news and circulars relating to the most important economic, technological and legislative developments in the sector. All members also receive a sector press review on a daily basis and an in-depth newsletter on a monthly basis.

FIMI provides the official weekly “Top of the Music” charts about music sales in Italy, thanks to a monitoring system developed with GfK Italia, which supervises the sales of albums and compilations (physical and online), digital singles (singles and premium streaming) and vinyls. Furthermore, FIMI releases official awards of albums and digital singles with reference to the national market every week. All the aforementioned activities are managed and supervised by FIMI through the integrated management of relationship channels with stakeholders and users, both online and offline in order to promote the value of the industrial sector it represents.

Through FPM, the Italian Federation against music and multimedia piracy, of which FIMI is a founding member, the associated companies can report piracy and counterfeiting episodes and receive assistance in copyright protection activities. FPM cooperates and assists the police, the judiciary and the customs agency in the fight against piracy and counterfeiting of record products.

FIMI assists and protects associated companies in the process of trade union negotiation (employment contracts, copyright general permits, agreements, etc.). The associated companies themselves access the agreements entered into by FIMI with the Ministry of Economic Development for the promotion of the Italian record industry abroad.
